Flin Flon

Flin Flon the city built on rocks, best known for its rich mining history.

Flin Flon the city built on rocks, best known for its rich mining history. Its unique location between the borders of northern Manitoba and Saskatchewan. As well for our 8.2-meter statue of Flinty. The Fictional character in which the city is named after.

Flin Flon was founded in 1927 after a massive copper and zinc discovery, which is located on the rugged Canadian Shield along the Manitoba-Saskatchewan border. This community holds the distinct honor being named after a science fiction character - Josiah Flintabbety Flonatin. Which comes from the novel "The Sunless City." Flin Flon is a fiercely resilient northern mining city famously known as "The city built on rocks." Which forced early builders to construct above-ground sewer boxes that doubles as wooden sidewalks today. As well as many wooden stairs placed all over the upper town area such as the '100 stairs' located by rotary park. Our community offers many outdoor activities in the spring/summer you can fish, bird watch, golf, canoe on the many lakes, & swimming on the beaches. In winter we have activities such as snow shoeing, snowmobiling, & sledding down the many hills. We have many community art & sport activities all year round for kids, teens and adults. Speaking of sports when comes to Flin Flon from early September until late April you better believe you will find majority of our population sitting at the Whitney Forum cheering for our legendary junior hockey league the Flin Flon Bombers!
